Marcello Scarselli
Marcello Scarselli was born in Santa Maria a Monte, in the province of Pisa, in 1953. He graduated from the State Technical Institute of Pontedera and attended courses in drawing, sculpture, and later, engraving at the International School of Graphics "Il Bisonte" in Florence.
The beginning of his artistic career dates back to the 1970s, a period during which he participated in numerous group exhibitions and took part in the lively aesthetic debate of the time. Key to his artistic development were meetings, friendships, and cultural exchanges with several Tuscan artists.
Scarselli's early works are characterized by a realistic representation; subsequently, his style moved towards the interpretation of an idea of pictorial "reality," rediscovered internally through memory and intuition, and expressed through continuous experimentation with avant-garde techniques and content. As the critic Giuseppe Cordoni emphasizes, "most critics have repeatedly highlighted the flexible (ductile) complexity and stylistic eclecticism that nourish the synthesis to which Scarselli's style gradually arrives, reaching abstract and informal expressionism, sign gestures, and childlike irony."
Many of his works are exhibited in museums and are part of public and private collections.
He currently lives and works in Bientina, in the province of Pisa, Italy.
