Jonathan Guaitamacchi

Jonathan Guaitamacchi (London, 1961) lives and works between Milan, London, and Cape Town. Educated at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera with a complex artistic background, he developed a balance between architecture and painting. He initially focused on the study of architectural spaces and volumes, collaborating as an illustrator and draughtsman with major newspapers like La Repubblica and Il Giornale, in addition to executing important Sacred Art commissions. His true artistic essence was revealed to the public in 1997 with the project "Le Macchine della Luce" (The Machines of Light), exhibited at the Officina della Pressione in Milan, which stemmed from a period of working inside the city's Gasometers.

Known for his global vision, the core of his artistic research lies in the architectures of great cities, which become both the subject and the trace for his work. His metropolitan visions are characterized by an intense painterly power, often rendered in black and white, with incisive and scratching brushwork. He participated in the XIV Quadriennale of Rome (1997) and the Beijing Biennale (2005), and has exhibited in over one hundred shows and major national and international art fairs, including the 53rd Venice Biennale (2009).
