Jonathan Guaitamacchi
Target Zooming
Oil on paper laid down on canvas cm 160 x 110 (inch 63 x 43.3)
This vertical work by Guaitamacchi embodies his poetics on the city as an organism and a target. The composition is an extreme perspective view that stretches toward infinity, typical of his monochromatic phase. At the center, a road or track symmetrically divides vast industrial or urban complexes, rendered with scratched black and white fields. The "zoom" effect of the perspective creates a sense of speed and immersion in the space. The bottom section is defined by a heavy shadow line from which the paint drips onto the white background, lending the architecture a dramatic monumentality and precarity.
