Omar Galliani
Omar Galliani (Montecchio Emilia, 1954) is an Italian artist, painter, and draughtsman, widely regarded as an undisputed master of "Italian drawing" in the contemporary scene. Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, Galliani was a prominent exponent of the Magico Primario (Primary Magic) and Anachronism movements in the 1980s, which favoured a return to figuration and pictorial tradition.
His art centers on monumental Drawing, often executed in pencil or charcoal on poplar wood panels, using a refined technique reminiscent of Renaissance accuracy. His works are characterized by iconography that merges classicism with a contemporary disquiet, exploring themes such as the human body (especially female faces), the sacredness of matter, and the dualism between light and shadow. His style, which elevates drawing from a mere project to a finished work, creates a visionary and intimate cosmos, with references to the Orient and constellations.
