Paolo Grigò

Paolo Grigò is an Italian artist, a versatile figure active as a painter, sculptor, and graphic artist, born in Cascina (Pisa) in 1954. He graduated from the National Art Institute of Cascina and furthered his studies by attending etching courses led by Maestro R. Masoni, in addition to studies on the nude and portraiture, but a crucial element in his artistic development was his collaboration with his sculptor father, from whom he learned sculpting techniques, and his time spent in the studio of the Florentine painter Gipi to master the monotype technique. This eclectic background makes him proficient in various disciplines, which he often combines in his work, merging Renaissance technical skill with a contemporary stylistic search. Grigò's artistic career began in the 1970s and is distinguished by originality and consistency: his work is oriented towards major contemporary issues and humanism, such as peace, democracy, cultural integration, and a reflection on the role of the intellectual in civil society. His paintings are described as "pulsating organisms," characterized by an intense interplay between warm colors and figures that explore the drama of humanity and the nostalgia for nature, while in his sculptures, typically in bronze or stone, he demonstrates an extraordinary ability to model surfaces to infuse them with an authentic inner life. Paolo Grigò has achieved significant recognition internationally, participating in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Italy and abroad, notably collaborating with the Sete Sòis Sete Luas Cultural Festival. Among his most significant and recent works, which testify to his commitment to social and civil themes, are the architectural structures installed for the Municipality of Calcinaia: the "Gate of Dialogue and Human Rights" and the "Gate of Culture and Knowledge."
