Francesco Nesi

Francesco Nesi was born in San Casciano Val di Pesa (Florence) on September 30, 1952. A self-taught painter, he lives and works in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, in the heart of the Tuscan countryside, from which he draws inspiration for much of his artistic production. From a young age, he showed a strong inclination for drawing and painting, winning school prizes and participating in local competitions. In 1985, he won the Bargellini Prize in Florence, an award that marked the beginning of his exhibition activity and fully inserted him into the contemporary Tuscan art scene.

His painting, which is figurative but with a poetic and surreal tone, is distinguished by an ironic and dreamy narration, in which everyday reality is transformed into a story. Landscapes, figures, and scenes of life interweave in light and colourful compositions, animated by characters suspended between memory and imagination. Nesi thus constructs a personal language, where irony coexists with a subtle melancholy, making his works both immediate and profound.

Critics have often highlighted his ability to combine lightness and reflection, conveying through painting an intimate and universal vision of the world. His works depict a timeless Tuscany, populated by figures that seem to come from fairy tales or dreams, balanced between fantasy and reality.

Throughout his career, Francesco Nesi has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows in Italy and abroad—from Florence to Paris, from Munich to New York—receiving appreciation for the freshness and originality of his visual language.
