Roberto Cosimi

Roberto Cosimi (Livorno, 1960) is a contemporary Italian artist who trained at the Art High School and the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, and is currently working in Pisa. His art focuses on Painting and Assemblage, distinguished by a highly personal language that merges material experimentation with a deep symbolic poetry. In his works, Cosimi creates an anachronistic dialogue between eras and cultures, invoking fragments, traces, and symbols of ancient civilizations, such as cave paintings, African art, or Ancient Egypt, juxtaposing them with objects and images of modernity, such as television sets or pets, to generate stark temporal and cultural contrasts. His style, sometimes defined as "primitive painting" in a Klee-like sense, investigates humanity's tension towards the infinite and the absolute, with a particular focus on the recovery of spirituality beyond materiality.
