Giuliano Ghelli

Giuliano Ghelli (Florence, 1944 – San Pancrazio, 2014) was an Italian painter and sculptor. Although self-taught, his artistic research evolved from Informalism and Geometric Abstraction into a personal figuration that drew elements from Pop Art and Surrealism. Living and working in the Florentine Chianti region, Ghelli stood out as an eccentric and "dreamer" artist, capable of combining Surrealistic creative freedom—often understood as a rebellion against conventions—with the accessible and colourful language of Pop Art. His works, rich in bright colours and a compact design, create an oniric, playful, and visionary universe, often bordering on the fabulous, with subjects that appear to belong to another reality. He is known for having produced painting cycles inspired by Leonardo da Vinci and for his constant investigation into a fantastic reality, elements that made him a prominent figure in contemporary Italian painting.
