Albert Hien's work "HOMO HOMINI LUPUS EST" is a light installation that elevates a complex Latin maxim into an artistic statement. The artist uses neon systems and a dark backing to present the phrase (meaning "man is wolf to man") in a vertical grid of fragmented letters. The visual contrast is sharp: some letters are lit in a cool white/cyan, while others remain unlit (or dimly lit), suggesting an alternation between light and shadow, good and evil. The juxtaposition of lit and unlit letters, joined by visible connections, creates a dynamic cipher that reflects the tension of the message. Measuring 45.5×21×10 cm, the work is a conceptual object that unites classical philosophy with contemporary industrial aesthetics.
